How to be a male ally

Andrew Tiernan, a leader at global strategic advisory firm, Hakluyt, a former British Army officer, and father of three daughters, who will share his own experience and learnings which have helped him become a successful male ally, both at home and at work, where he has led several successful inclusion and mentoring initiatives.

A self-confessed token male, Andrew is also the only male member of the St John’s College Women’s Network Steering Group at Oxford, the only male speaker at the Army’s annual servicewomen’s conference, and helped get a conventional female artillery officer deployed onto the front line alongside UK special forces operators. In his role at Hakluyt, Andrew has led a mentoring initiative which aims to enable senior male leaders to be mentored by women.

At home, where even the family golden retriever is female, Andrew is used to being outnumbered, but allyship is a role he relishes.
